A special note worth mentioning…
05/18/10
A note worth mentioning… Congratulations to both Hank A. and Matthew F. as they are our longest training students. They enrolled in February, 2004! They deserve recognition for their dedication to their martial arts training. They have stuck with it and have seen many others quit along the way. Part of the power of a US-AMA black belt is that it does not come quickly or easily. Few who start the martial arts journey are able to see it through to black belt. Hank and Matthew are well on their way in their martial arts journey and we congratulate them on their determination, loyalty, patience, and commitment. Keep it up!

Charlie R competing at Henry Quan’s Martial Arts Championship. May, 2010
05/05/10
This past weekend one of our own, Charlie Reilly, competed in Henry Quan’s Martial Arts Championships in Fresno CA. He participated in the kata and sparring divisions of this open tournament, receiving 1st place for his Pinan-Sandan.
Charlie said, “I saw a lot of things I didn’t know. Something I might not know how to block or counter,” when asked about his experience at an open tournament.
“It feels strange and cool to see different styles of martial arts,” he commented on what he took from the experience stating, “I also found I could learn different things from the other people.”
Charlie demonstrated great courage by attending this event. It definitely takes a strong quality of mind to enable him to meet danger and difficulties with boldness, endurance, and bravery. Charlie traveled to an unfamiliar place without a coach to talk him through the day as Sensei Dan, Sensei Drew, and Sensei Jonathan were not able to attend. As the soul, representative of US-AMA at this tournament, he was able to bring home a 1st place medal.
We would like to congratulate Charlie and celebrate his accomplishments. His participation as an active student, consistently training, sempai-ing, being part of TXK, and gaining experience through the Demo Team have enabled him to become this product of habitual excellence. Through his experience, we all have played a part in helping him achieve such as a success. In training with and around him, he has taken knowledge from each of our individual interactions to create the final product of a winning form.
